Married At First Sight a troll's delight

Married At First Sight started out as a free-hit for Twitter trolls who saw more holes in the reality TV show than a hobo's sock.

Yet by the time the first show ended, the Nine Network series, in which eight strangers are matched and then "married" at first sight, appeared to win over the audience on social media.

The marriage is merely a commitment ceremony because the Australian Marriage Act requires one month and one day's notification of any marriage.

Social media followers compared the show to the ill-fated Network Ten series Yasmin's Getting Married, which only lasted four weeks in 2006 before being dumped.

While others suggested Tinder would have been a more useful platform for the singles to find love.

"It should be called #CommitmentatFirstSight as they don't actually get married!," tweeted @fanofsexyladies.

"I have kept Twitter for such a time as this. I'm so ready to rip this show apart. Come at me #MarriedAtFirstSight #ialreadyhateyou," wrote @Beccbaby.

The first two couples to front-up were Roni and Michael, and Lachlan and Clare, who were "wed" in two separate ceremonies.

The barbs kept coming soon after Clare, 37, had a meltdown over the wrong coloured flowers being delivered for the wedding and then arrived in a black dress at the alter.

One viewer suggested the matchmaking psychologists, who paired the singles, could have used their time more wisely.

"Claire is a bridezilla and it's not even a real wedding! I think she could make better use of the psychologists!," tweeted @Anthisms.

While @trainspotter67 posted: "Dressed in Black. #MarriedAtFirstSight A marriage or a funeral?"

Thankfully, for her own sake, Clare lightened up, and her 36-year-old beau Lachlan saved the day with his "wedding" reception speech, which almost brought Twitter users to tears.

"She looks absolutely stunning and I look absolutely stunned," Lachlan said, possibly forgetting Clare was dressed in black and that he was at a wedding and not a funeral.

"It's true, we don't know what we've got until we lose it, and it's true you don't what we've been missing until it arrives. I hope this is the beginning of something very special."

His words no doubt struck a chord with the female viewers.

"Lachlan's speech makes him the most eligible (legal) bachelor in Australia," tweeted @kholly265.

"Ill marry you lachlan #marriedatfirstsight you're a poet even if you do talk to cows," wrote @roseg.

While Clare grated with Twitter followers, smiling payroll manager Roni, 32, and events manager Michael, 31, were winners from the outset.

"OH MY GOSH Michael & Roni are PERFECTION!! ???? hahaha ...but I'd be pretty happy with him too! ?? LOL," wrote @CheZZryl.

The next two couples to go through public scrutiny and get married in a fake ceremony will be on show next Monday.
