Hugh Sheridan to find brother in Nepal

Former Packed To The Rafters star Hugh Sheridan is on his way to Nepal in the hope of finding his teenage brother, who has been missing since Saturday's earthquake.

The actor and singer has posted a message on Instagram thanking fans for their wishes and saying he'll be using a helicopter to try and find Zachary Sheridan who was on Mt Everest when the earthquake struck.

"I'm on my way to Nepal now and will head toward base camp to try and find Zachary," he posted on Instagram on Monday.

"I will be with a small crew helping with a chopper, a dr and we will have a satellite phone available for any Australian there who needs to reach home and tell their loved ones they're ok, I know so many of us are still waiting to hear but communication is down."

Sheridan says he is optimistic about finding his 18-year-old sibling despite the fact hundreds of Australians are still unaccounted for.

He also asked that the media respect his mother's privacy.

"Stay positive everyone, I feel optimistic that he is alive and stuck," he said.

"I know that the news have been eager to talk to my mum but it would be respectful to leave her alone at this time.

"My heart goes out to every family who is still waiting to hear, I can't imagine how they feel at Mt Everest."

Sheridan posted a photo, that his brother had sent him, of the sun shining over some mountains in Nepal.

"I'm looking forward to seeing my little brother and getting him out safely," he wrote.

"This was the last picture he sent me, he sure captured her beauty. #family #nepal #australia #speaklove."
