TV stars use their own children on screen

Gold Logie winning actor Asher Keddie need not worry about cutting back on her career now she's a mum.

In this day and age, more and more actors are using their own children to play their on-screen offspring in TV shows or even minor characters.

And who knows, in the near future the opportunity may present itself for Keddie who last month gave birth to Valentino.

In recent years, husband and wife Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have each appeared with one of their children in The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button and Maleficent.

Will Smith appeared alongside his son Jaden in The Pursuit of Happyness and After Earth.

However, appearing alongside your child in a TV show is not as common.

Here's a look at a few actors who have been fortunate enough to have their own children cast as their on-screen offspring or in minor roles on TV shows.

Bold And The Beautiful - Heather Tom plays Katie Logan on the long-running Network Ten series. When Tom announced she and her husband James Anchor were having their first child, the writers of the series made sure her character, Logan, also fell pregnant. Before her son Zane turned one on October 28, 2013, he was playing her on-screen child.

Criminal Minds - A.J Cook plays special agent Jennifer "JJ" Jareau in the Seven Network series. She has an on-screen child Henry LaMontagne who is played by her six-year-old son Mekhail Andersen. Cook has announced she is expecting her second child with husband Nathan Andersen although there's been no word if the new arrival will immediately take up acting.

City Homicide - Veteran Aussie star Noni Hazlehurst worked alongside her son William Jarratt whose father is Wolf Creek star John Jarratt. William was turning 13 when he first walked on to the set of City Homicide to play Joshua Waverley the on-screen son to Hazlehurst's character Bernice Waverley, about seven years ago. According to IMDB, its William's only TV credit.

Winter - Rebecca Gibney got to work alongside her son Zac Bell in the 2015 Seven Network series she not only starred in, but also co-produced. However, Zac was cast as a minor character and not as the on-screen son of his Logie-winning mum.
