PM Abbott helps launch veterans program
Prime Minister Tony Abbott has helped launch a program to give veterans a "hand up, not a handout", as they move to new jobs outside the defence force.
The initiative offered by support group Soldier On, in partnership with business, provides ex-servicemen and women free diploma level courses and help to make job applications.
Speaking on behalf of Mr Abbott in Canberra on Wednesday, Defence Minister Kevin Andrews said the program aimed to make the lives of veterans richer and their scars easier to manage.
