Kit Harington doesn't like "hunk" label

Game of Thrones star Kit Harington is tired of being seen as just a hot, hunky guy.

He says it's offensive when actors - and actresses alike - are always hailed and adored for their physical gifts while their acting talent is overlooked.

"To always be put on a pedestal as a hunk is slightly demeaning," Harington recently told entertainment site Page Six.

"In the same way as it is for women. When an actor is seen only for her physical beauty, it can be quite offensive."

Harington said he feels like his good looks have gone before his acting chops at times playing the dashing Jon Snow in HBO's fantasy hit Game of Thrones.

"I'm in a successful TV show in a kind of leading man way, and it can sometimes feel like your art is being put to one side for your sex appeal. And I don't like that," he said.

The sentiment has powerful support in Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren.

Mirren recently said she doesn't like the word "sexy" as labelling actors and actresses in this way narrows people's view of them.

"I think it's totally overused and limiting - it limits human qualities into this very narrow, rather mundane... little place," she told the US Today Show on Tuesday.

"Human beings are so much more complex and interesting and deep."
