Giuliana Rancic walks ASTRAs red carpet

US queen of the red carpet Giuliana Rancic has arrived for the ASTRA Awards, pay TV's night of nights, in Sydney.

The host of E! News, who is often seen quizzing Hollywood stars at major events like the Oscars, found out what it was like to be on the receiving end for a change as she walked the red carpet at the event, held at the Star in Sydney on Thursday.

Rancic wore a long black dress with a sheer upper half and a white boob tube underneath as she posed for the waiting media.

Actress Danielle Cormack (Wentworth) and Marta Dusseldorp (A Place To Call Home) were some of the first on the carpet to strut their stuff.

Cormack is up for the award for Most Outstanding Performance By An Actress but Dusseldorp is just there to enjoy the event as she isn't up for any of the night's awards.

Dusseldorp wore a long, black satin Armani dress with a silver Tiffany cuff bracelet and Armani chandelier earrings.

"It's actually very comfortable and has pockets," she said of her dress.

She said she was enjoying the ASTRAs as she wasn't as nervous as she had felt at the AACTAs where she was nominated for, and won, the best actress in a TV drama award.

She also revealed she's about to shoot a series of Jack Irish with Guy Pearce.

"It's always wonderful to work with Guy," she said.

Sia's favourite dancer, Maddie Ziegler, made an appearance on the red carpet for the awards.

Ziegler and her Dance Moms castmates are in Australia to perform at the awards.

The young dancer said she was thrilled to have appeared in not one but two of the Aussie singer's videos - Chandelier and Elastic Heart.

"Hopefully I get to do more, she's really amazing," Ziegler said.

Steve Irwin's son Bob also made an appearance on the red carpet with his Mum, Terri. The 11-year-old animal lover held his own among stars twice and three times his age.

Australia's Next Top Model was well represented with hosts Jennifer Hawkins, Didier Cohen, Alex Perry and Cheyenne Tozzi bringing oodles of glamour to the event.
