Richard Branson hints at V Festival return
Richard Branson has said he might bring the V Festival back to Australia.
Speaking to the Hack program on Triple J, to be aired on Wednesday afternoon, the Virgin boss said he might put the festival back on Down Under after he heard that festivals, such as the Big Day out, had struggled to survive in Australia.
"Well I think the future of a big music festival should be good because people love live music and I hadn't realised that Australia had such a setback," Branson said.
However, this revelation seemed to buoy Branson as he hinted that it might even be a good time to bring his festival back.
"Where there's setbacks in a country, that's where Virgin loves to tread, so maybe we should try to get the team at the V Festival to have another look at Australia," he said.
When he was asked if that meant he would bring the V Festival back he said: "Well, why not."
"We'll have a look at it and if we do, you can take full credit for it."
The V Festival ran for three years from 2007 to 2009 and had major acts such as Pixies, The Killers, Snow Patrol, Duran Duran and Tame Impala.
The festival finished up when promoters Michael Coppel Presents discontinued their partnership with the Virgin Group.
Branson appeared on the show to talk about his plea for clemency for the Bali Nine who are facing the death sentence in Indonesia.
The full interview will be on Hack on triple J at 5.30pm on Wednesday.
