Margot Robbie steals Focus over Smith

Margot Robbie is going to be very busy, for a long time.

The Aussie actress is being touted as the best thing about her latest film Focus, which is being panned as a mediocre con-movie also starring Will Smith.

Even Hollywood heavyweight Smith can't outshine the Wolf of Wall Street actress, who has been showered with praise by global critics and media for her role in the film.

"Robbie, best known for her role in The Wolf of Wall Street, but also hailed for this year's Sundance sci-fi hit Z for Zachariah, is the best thing in the film," according to Joe Neumaier, writing for the New York Daily News.

Neumaier also criticises Smith's "lethargy" in the film while complimenting Robbie's "spark" and labels the Aussie actress as "one to watch".

Peter Debruge who writes for Variety, also holds Robbie's performance over Smith's.

"It's a nice change to see Smith unsettled, and Robbie, who wields the upper hand for the better part of the movie, more than holds her own in every scene," Debruge writes.

Not every one has something bad to say about Smith, though: "They are both terrific in this, especially relative newcomer Robbie who shows tremendous comedic range," says Jordan Hoffman in The Guardian.

However, UK tabloid The Mirror puts Robbie back on top again with this headline: "Will Smith fails to shine alongside Margot Robbie in drab Ocean's Eleven knock-off".

Great for Robbie, not so great for Smith.

According to Amy Nicholson for the LA Weekly, Robbie has unique style.

"If Grace Kelly had been raised by coyotes, she might have stalked the screen like Focus' Margot Robbie, a va-va-voom blonde with bite," Nicholson writes.

So while Smith should probably stick to making apocalyptic films about aliens, every director in Hollywood is probably clamouring to get to Robbie.

It's now up to the former Neighbours' actress to decide between Spielberg and Tarantino because she can already tick Scorsese off the list.
