Hurricane Dee will not blow The Bock down
The Block's "hurricane" Deanne Jolly has dissed the Nine Network's promotion department for portraying her, and her husband Darren, as a couple in conflict.
Deanne and Darren Jolly, who is a two-time AFL premiership player, have featured heavily in the promotions of the latest series The Block Glasshouse which starts on Sunday.
In the ads for The Block Glasshouse, Deanne is called "Hurricane Dee" and the pair are shown quarrelling and having terse words.
"Im not the problem" Dee says to Darren in one of the promos.
But Deanne has told AAP they were far from each other's throats and fans will eventually get to see they are a normal married couple who speak their minds and talk through any tough situation.
"I think the promotional department is a little separate entity all on its own and they sit in a dark room and see things that others don't," Deanne said.
"They want people to watch the show, so they play that stuff up but we had a pretty normal experience of being a married couple going through a renovation of that scale in that time frame."
"There's not much bulls*** with Darren and I, we get to the point and we move on.
"We are rock solid anyway and we can handle that."
Darren's AFL career ended in 2013 after more than 250 games at three clubs.
He started with Melbourne before heading to Sydney, where he played in the 2005 premiership team, and then he ended up at Collingwood and played in the successful 2010 grand final side.
Deanne said the they decided to apply to be contestants on The Block after Darren had completed a building degree and they had finished a major renovation of their Melbourne home.
However, they applied for the previous series, Fans v Faves at Dux House in South Melbourne but were called up for The Glasshouse at the last minute.
"We were on the short list for Dux house but they went with Fans v Faves format and they put us in the running for this one instead," Deanne said.
She said the couple visited Dux House to get an idea and appreciation of the effort involved in renovating and building an apartment from scratch.
"We are perfectionists Daz and I and we wanted to do things at a high level so we were interested to see what the finish was like and we surprised how good everything look."
The Block Glasshouse launches on Sunday, July 27 at 6.30pm on the Nine Network.
