Leisel Jones and Steve Hooker join Ten

Olympic champions Leisel Jones and Steve Hooker will head a "breakfast show" on Network Ten, which should be more successful than the axed Wake Up.

Tens of thousands of Australians are expected to watch Jones, Hooker and presenter Matt White behind the desk for Ten's morning Commonwealth Games segment live from Glasgow.

The Games run from July 24 to August 4.

The show will start at 3am and wind up at 8.30am, and act as the lead-in program to chat fest Studio 10.

Wake Up started in November but was cancelled in late May because of poor ratings.

Ten is not calling the morning segment a breakfast show, nor will it contain a news service.

Even though Jones, Hooker and White will be on air from 3am, it's likely the bulk of their viewing audience will tune in from 6am.

"Australia has countless gold medal chances in Glasgow, including household names such as Sally Pearson, Anna Meares and James Magnussen up against some of the world's best athletes," White said in a statement.

The "breakfast show" could be a raging success for Ten during the Games, and should prove viewers will tune in to the network.

Jones, who was an Olympic swimming champion, and Hooker, who won gold in the pole vault, join Australian swimming great Ian Thorpe in Ten's Games team.

Thorpe will appear alongside Mel McLaughlin from 9.30pm until 3am.

"The Glasgow Games are on track to be one of the most memorable Commonwealth Games ever, and we are thrilled to have Mel McLaughlin and Matt White lead the presenting team with Ian Thorpe, Leisel Jones and Steve Hooker," Ten head of sport David Barham said.

"Their combined wealth of knowledge and experience will no doubt prove an invincible team in the Glasgow studio."
