Red Symons the new King of Melbourne radio

Former acid-tongued Hey Hey It's Saturday star Red Symons has prevented 3AW's Ross Stevenson and John Burns' from raking up a century of ratings win.

Symons knocked off 3AW's breakfast show after Stevenson and Burns dropped 0.7 per cent to 16.6 per cent, while Breakfast with Red Symons on ABC 774 increased by a massive 1.2 per cent to 17.2.

The upset had Tom Reynolds comparing Stevenson and Burns falling short of 100 to cricketing great Donald Bradman having a career Test average of 99.94 after being dismissed for a duck in his last innings.

"Wow, in a Bradman like performance@RossAndJohn have been bowled out while on 99 survey wins by Red Symons. #99.94," Reynolds tweeted.

Another tried to explain the upset win by using a line from the song You Just Like Me 'Cos I'm Good in Bed which Symon's successful Aussie band Skyhooks recorded in the 1970s.

"It turns out that people don't just like Red Symons 'cos he's good in bed " Phil Branagan tweeted.

It was not the only notable change in the ratings.

In the hotly contested FM stakes, Chrissie Swan and Jane Hall's stay at No. 1 was short lived.

Triple M's The Hot Breakfast, led by Eddie McGuire, won the breakfast time slot in the latest radio ratings.

The Hot Breakfast reclaimed pole position in the FM breakfast race after jumping 1.4 per cent to attract 8.5 per cent of the audience share.

The Chrissie & Jane show, on Mix101.1, slipped 0.2 per cent to 7.3 per cent.

Swan and Hall made history in June by becoming the first all-female radio duo to win the Melbourne ratings.
