Vic and WA go into House Rules grand final
Eliminated House Rules contestant Candy Stuart will be cheering Adam and Lisa on in the grand final this Sunday.
NSW's Stuart and teammate Ryan Pusic were kicked out of the competition after losing the challenge to renovate a Barnardos Australia holiday home on the NSW coast.
Their exit means Victorians Adam and Lisa will battle Western Australia's Carole and Russell on Sunday to have their mortgage paid off.
Stuart, who now hopes to move to the UK, says she was in a relationship with Pusic for almost five years and the pair split about a month after House Rules filming wrapped.
"The show just really opened our eyes up to each other," she told AAP.
"I thought I really knew Ryan going into the show and I honestly didn't know him at all.
"I saw a completely different side to Ryan and I am guessing he saw a different side to me, too."
Stuart said she thought arguments with Pusic during filming were just usual disagreements that regular couples experience.
"We argued a lot but I thought it was just normal bickering like every couple does," she said.
"I didn't realise there was a more serious side to it."
Stuart and Pusic had a blow up with Carole and Russell after the team from WA backflipped on their original shared wall design.
Team NSW had to change the design for their games room but judges Joe Snell and Wendy Moore praised the end result.
"It's one of the best rooms we've ever seen on House Rules," Snell said.
But the distraction may have contributed to Stuart and Pusic forgetting to organise delivery of their kitchen appliances and, with just minutes remaining, they failed to install all of them.
Lisa and Adam scored two nines out of 10 from the judges and were the first team through to the grand final.
"Someone slap me," Adam said.
"I must be dreaming."
Lisa said earlier this week it would be her dream to go up against Carole in the grand final.
"It would be a little like the master versus the apprentice," she said.
"And I think I've got it in me to beat her."
Carole and Russell, the oldest team in the competition, have also been the most consistent.
After scoring an eight from Snell they needed a nine from Moore to beat team NSW.
Moore eventually gave them a winning score and Russell and Carole hugged with relief.
"That was the longest 10 seconds of my life," Russell said.
Teams will return to their rivals' homes in the grand final for one last renovation challenge.
They must transform a secret room, which the judges will each score out of 10.
The judges' scores will be combined with a public vote to determine the winning team.
Stuart said although she loves Carole and Russell she would be cheering for close friends Adam and Lisa in the grand final.
"They (the Victorians) are so genuine and lovely and they worked their bums off," Stuart said.
"Ryan and I worked really hard but Adam is just a freak, he pushed himself to every limit that he could.
"Adam and Lisa just really, really deserve it."
The House Rules grand final will air on the Seven at 6.30pm (AEST) on Sunday.
