Anscombe sacked as Ulster coach

Chiefs fullback Gareth Anscombe has hit out at Irish rugby club Ulster after they sacked his father Mark as head coach.

Gareth Anscombe described the decision on social media website Twitter as disappointing.

"How do you expect to get success at a club when you have clowns at the top making decisions like this?" he tweeted.

Mark Anscombe had signed a one-year extension with Ulster in February.

His departure follows that of director of rugby David Humphreys to England Premiership club Gloucester, and will be followed by a full review of Ulster's coaching structures, the club's website said.

Ulster Rugby chief executive Shane Logan paid tribute to Mark Anscombe's contribution, thanking him for his hard work and dedication.

The former Auckland coach joined Ulster in 2012, leading the club to an unbeaten 16-game run in his first season and to the Heineken Cup quarter-finals.
