Guilty plea after three killed in crash
A Dutch tourist has pleaded guilty to causing the deaths of a Christchurch woman and two 12-year-old girls.
Johannes Jacobus Appelman, 52, was charged with three counts of careless driving causing death and one count of careless driving causing injury following a crash at Rakaia during Queen's Birthday Weekend.
Police said he failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a car carrying four people.
Abigail Ann Hone, 12, her best friend Ella Yasmin Summerfield, 12, and Ella's mother Sally Vanessa Summerfield, 49, were killed in the crash.
Appelman is due to appear in Christchurch District Court for sentencing on July 16.
