Why Magda made Sandilands turn white
Kyle Sandilands says he turned white when he learned he'd have to insult comedian Magda Szubanski on stage, five years after his comments about her weight got him taken off the air.
The KIIS FM shock jock appears as the magic mirror in pre-recorded segments for an upcoming stage production of Snow White.
But he says he went white, started shaking and had to take a break in the recording booth when he learned Magda Szubanski was playing the Wicked Queen.
"I didn't know anything about who was in it," Sandilands explained.
"I showed up to do the recording."
"And I'm saying all these awful, nasty things, and then I said, who is actually playing the Queen?"
When the reply came that Szubanski was playing the part, Sandilands said his stomach dropped.
"My entire colour changed. It drained out of my body," he said.
"Then I started to shake."
Sandilands was taken off air for a fortnight in 2009 after he suggested the comedian, who was acting as a weight loss ambassador at the time, should be put in a concentration camp.
"You put her in a concentration camp and you watch the weight fall off," he said.
Speaking with Szubanski on Thursday, Sandilands said his comments had been born out of "ignorance and stupidity".
Snow White Winter Family Musical, produced by So You Think You Can Dance judge Bonnie Lythgoe, opens at the State Theatre in Sydney in July.
