Charges over Levin forestry death
Charges have been laid over the death of a 20-year-old forestry worker who was killed by a falling tree last year.
Lincoln Kidd, 20, died on December 19 while felling trees on a forestry block on State Highway 1 near Levin.
WorkSafe NZ laid charges against the company on Wednesday, alleging it knew that serious harm was reasonably likely to be caused.
The company - which can't be named ahead of its first court appearance - could face a fine of up to $500,000.
It has also been charged under another section which carries a maximum $250,000 fine.
Two individuals have also been charged. One is accused of a charge which carries a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment or a fine up to $500,000, while the other faces a charge carrying a possible $250,000 fine.
All of the charges are under the Health and Safety in Employment Act.
Mr Kidd was the 10th forestry worker killed on the job last year.
