Aircalin touches down in Noumea
An Aircalin flight has touched down in Noumea, the first of regular services between Melbourne and New Caledonia's capital.
The South Pacific airline has started twice weekly flights on Tuesdays and Fridays in both directions and in late October will add a third service on Wednesdays.
The flight time between Melbourne and Noumea is less than four hours.
Aircalin general manager for Australia Ken Triffitt said the new service was perfect for Melburnians looking for a tropical long weekend.
Travellers would arrive just in time for an authentic French dining experience on Friday evenings.
The airline also runs services from Brisbane and Sydney to New Caledonia.
