Benedict Cumberbatch spoofs Iggy Pop

British actor Benedict Cumberbatch has added another spot-on impression to his repertoire.

The Star Trek star was appearing at a Welsh literature festival when he spoofed punk-rock icon Iggy Pop's response to a fan letter.

He mastered Pop's resonant American accent, uneven intonation and expressive hand gestures as he read from the reply.

"Hang on, my love, and grow big and strong," he tells the letter's recipient.

"Take your hits and keep going."

It's not the first time Cumberbatch has unleashed his powers of mimicry.

His go-to impression is Alan Rickman's velvety baritone, which he has performed on numerous chat shows, including a "Rickman Off" with Jimmy Fallon.

He also mastered Julian Assange's flat-toned Australian accent for the film The Fifth Estate.

Graham Norton, Martin Freeman and Chewbacca are a few more of his favourite characters to impersonate.

"I used to muck around with dictaphones at school for ages," he has said.

"It's part of what (actors) do."
