Man dies in Vic garbage truck collision

A man died when his truck collided with a garbage truck, and a second driver is dead after he is believed to have swerved to avoid a kangaroo in separate crashes in country Victoria.

The truck driver lost control and crashed into a concrete culvert after the two trucks collided in Nambrok, near Sale, on Thursday afternoon.

Police said he died at the scene.

The driver of the garbage truck, a Clydebank man aged in his 60s, was not injured and is assisting police with their inquiries.

It was the second death on Victoria's roads on Thursday after a man who might have been trying to avoid a kangaroo lost control of his car and crashed into trees in Toolleen, near Bendigo.

A male passenger was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

The deaths take the state's road toll to 104 compared with 94 at this time in 2013.
