Aratere out of dry dock
The troubled Interislander ferry Aratere is out of dry dock and it'll be back in New Zealand towards the end of June, KiwiRail says.
The ferry's propeller came off in Cook Strait in November and it's been undergoing repairs in Singapore since February.
Interislander general manager Thomas Davis says new rudder stocks and rudders have been installed and the ferry was back on the water on Friday.
Some more work still needs to be done before the Araetere is expected to undergo sea trials in early June.
Once the trials have been successfully completed, the ferry will make the two-week journey back to New Zealand.
When back in Wellington, equipment like retail fittings and passenger furniture in use on the replacement ferry Stena Alegra will be transferred to the Aratere.
The ferry should be back in service towards the end of June, Mr Davis said.
