Charlize Theron's mistaken identity

She's one of the most beautiful women in the world, but turns out Charlize Theron isn't as recognisable as you'd think.

The Oscar winner was once mistaken for another long-legged Hollywood blonde.

"Years ago, maybe 15, 16 years ago I was getting a massage at a hotel.

"The masseuse was so flattering, and saying how much she loved me and all my movies.

"At some point, she called me Cameron Diaz," Theron told Southern Cross Austereo's 2DayFM.

But Theron said she played along with the mistake because she didn't have the heart to tell the Diaz fan that she hadn't met her idol.

"She was way too happy. I couldn't burst that bubble," she said.

Theron, who is currently promoting Seth MacFarlane's new comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West, also revealed she's more mindful of her bad habits now she's a mother.

The Monster star was unearthed throwing a tantrum in a bank, but said she thinks there is "a time and a place" for swearing these days.

"There's this image of a person, me, drunk and stumbling down a hallway swearing like a sailor," she said.

"That's not true.

"I now have a two-and-a-half-year-old son that I have to be responsible with."

While she enjoyed working on the Western spoof, Theron's next project is a return to darker subject matter - the big-screen adaptation of Gillian Flynn's murder mystery, Dark Places.
