Bridgewater returning to rowing in NZ

Former world champion rower George Bridgewater is returning to New Zealand to pursue a place at the 2016 Olympics.

Bridgewater, 31, hasn't worn the black singlet since securing a bronze medal with Nathan Twaddle in the pairs at the 2008 Games in Beijing.

He graduated from England's Oxford University the following year and accepted a job in the financial sector in Singapore.

He plans to relocate his family to the Rowing New Zealand base in Cambridge in August where he will resume training, with a target to rejoin the national squad and earn selection in a crew next year.

Bridgewater and Twaddle won a world championship gold in 2005, following it with silvers in 2006 and 2007.
