X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

X-Men characters from the original films join forces with their younger selves when Hugh Jackman's Wolverine is sent back to the `70s to help change the course of history. Directed by Bryan Singer and starring an all-star cast including Jennifer Lawrence, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage.

THE BABADOOK

Drama/horror/thriller; rated M; opening in limited cinemas May 22

Essie Davis from Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries stars as a single mother still haunted by the death of her husband nearly seven years earlier and struggling to cope with her six-year-old son Samuel. He is convinced a monster is coming for them, and after a disturbing picture book appears in the house and an eerie presence emerges, Amelia isn't so sure herself. Written and directed by Jennifer Kent.

SUNSHINE ON LEITH

Musical/comedy/drama; rated PG; opening in limited cinemas May 22

Two Scottish soldiers, Davy (George MacKay) and Ally (Kevin Guthrie) return from duty in Afghanistan to their family and lifelong home in Leith, just outside Edinburgh. Adapted from the acclaimed stage production and featuring music from The Proclaimers, the film is from actor-turned-director Dexter Fletcher.

SON OF GOD

Drama; rated M; opening May 22

Portuguese actor Diogo Morgado stars as Jesus Christ in this cinematic telling of his life from his humble beginnings to his crucifixion and resurrection. Directed by Christopher Spencer.

IDA

Drama; rated M; opening in limited cinemas May 22 and May 29

Director Pawel Pawlikowski of Last Resort and My Summer of Love returns to his homeland of Poland to tell the story of Anna (Agata Trzebuchowska), who grew up in a convent after she was orphaned as a child. In 1962, at the age of 18, she is on the verge of becoming a nun when she discovers a dark family secret dating back to the time of Nazi occupation.
