Hamblin, Matthews in Games qualifying runs
Three New Zealand athletes have run Commonwealth Games qualifying times at an athletics meet in Los Angeles.
Hamblin went well under the target time for Glasgow in the women's 1500m heats at the USATF High Performance Distance Classic on Thursday before Julian Matthews did the same in the men's heats.
Nick Willis then posted a qualifying performance and personal best over 5000m, meaning he should run two events at the Games starting in late July.
Hamblin, 25, was the second-fastest qualifier with a time of four minutes 07.07 seconds, which was nearly 2sec under the Athletics NZ B-qualifying target.
Hamblin won silver over 800m and 1500m at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi four years ago but injuries have hampered the English-born runner since.
She has endured a slow but steady return from heel surgery 18 months ago and made it a priority to qualify for Glasgow.
Compatriot and 2012 Olympian Lucy van Dalen was 18th fastest in 4:12.48, meaning she still hasn't produced a Games-qualifying performance.
Nelson runner Matthews produced a personal best time of 3:38.20 to finish third in his heat and sneak under the B-standard by 0.40sec.
Hamblin and Matthews should have done enough to be added to the 18-strong athletics contingent for Glasgow when the qualifying deadline ticks over later this month.
Willis had already qualified over 1500m, the distance in which he claimed silver at the 2008 Olympics.
However, he set his sights on also racing the 5000m and looks to have achieved that by clocking 13:20.33 to finish third, running under the B-qualifying mark by nearly 5sec.
