Rising Sun: A symbol of slaughter
Banned: The Rising Sun is considered to be the Japanese version of the Swastika
The symbol was used before and during World War II by Imperial Japan’s military, particularly the Imperial Japanese Navy.
It was used as propaganda, championing the culture of war.
The flags were carried by soldiers and were raised when enemy territories fell to Japanese forces, championing war crimes and militarisation, also raised when soldiers committed rapes and murder.
The flag is used in Korea as a reminder of Japanese colonialism - when Japan ruled with force, sending Korean men to battle, using tens of thousands of young women as Comfort Women, AKA sex slaves.
Today, the flag is still used by right-wing ultranationalists, favouring the imperial state and remilitarisation, and championing anti-Korean and anti-Chinese racism.
It is a banned image, considered to be the Japanese version of Germany's Nazi Hakenkreuz, or Swastika.
