What RSD is, in relation to ADHD

RSD is described by The Cleveland Clinic as 'when you experience severe emotional pain because of a failure or feeling rejected.'

The clinic said that RSD 'is linked to ADHD and experts suspect it happens due to differences in brain structure.

'Those differences mean your brain can’t regulate rejection-related emotions and behaviors, making them much more intense.'

The clinic says that 'RSD isn’t an officially recognized medical condition' and that there is 'limited scientific research available,' leaving healthcare providers relatively in the dark.

The clinic said medical professionals 'may suspect that you have it based on the symptoms you describe and whether you have other conditions like ADHD.

'Unfortunately, providers may not diagnose it because they aren’t familiar with RSD, or they mistake it for another condition.'

According to the clinic, the condition on its own 'isn’t dangerous' but linked to dangerous conditions such 'as anxiety and depression, which may increase the risk of self-harm or dying by suicide.'
