Friends fret over Ross
David Schwimmer has repeated his threat to quit Friends - to become a teacher.
The actor, who plays Ross Geller, wants to leave the sitcom at the end of the next season.
He has already made inquiries about studying at teacher training colleges in Los Angeles and Chicago, where he has houses.
Schwimmer, 34, has told friends he is tired of Hollywood's celebrity lifestyle and wants to make a greater contribution to society.
Sources say he has made so much money - about £8million a season for the last five years - that he will never need paid work again.
He told a Chicago radio programme on Saturday: 'I think we can use more and better teachers in America. I would like to teach in a state school. I think I have a lot to offer in that area.'
Schwimmer's plans have alarmed the other cast members, who are trying to negotiate better contracts to continue the series.
The five stars are seeking an increase from £520,000 to almost £700,000 an episode.
As Ross is the most popular male character, they fear TV bosses will decide to cancel the series if he leaves.
