Hot new faces of 2001
Spanish actress Penelope Cruz will become a sizzling property this year when she stars in the lead role in Captain Corelli's Mandolin, one of the biggest movies of the year.
Although Cruz has appeared in other films - she was a hit in Pedro Almodovar's All About My Mother and saddled up for the epic All The Pretty Horses - Corelli will mean she's no longer just the movie buff's favourite but the choice of the cinema-going masses.
Watch out for Cruz in Woman on Top - about a Brazilian thief-turned TV chef - and in drugs-thriller Blow. Both films are out early this year. It looks like Penelope's cruzing into the big time.
HEATH LEDGER
This 21-year-old Australian is looking forward to one of the best years of his career. Stepping into the spotlight when he played Mel Gibson's son in The Patriot last year, this year sees his return to the big screen as Harry Faversham in the epic war drama The Four Feathers.
He's also set to appear in A Knight's Tale, a medieval action drama about jousting, with Rufus Sewell and Mark Addy.
Joely Richardson, who appeared with Heath in The Patriot, explained what it is that makes Heath such a hot new star. 'It's simple, he's got that x factor of being able to pop out of the screen, which no one can define,' she says.
