Presque Rien (Cert 18)
by JULIE MYERSON, Mail on Sunday
The opening titles of Sebastian Lifshitz's Presque Rien tell you it arrives as part of the Gay And Lesbian Film Festival.
Almost a shame, since the strength of this tender film is that it manages to transcend all possible labels and depict the relationship between two young men as ordinary and universal.
Quiet, withdrawn Mathieu, spending the summer by the sea with his depressed mother, is seduced by Cedric.
There's not a huge story here - and it sags a bit halfway through - but this is an astonishingly honest film that neither avoids the sex nor exploits it. I was moved.
