Sir Jimmy marks TOTP move
Original Top Of The Pops presenter Sir Jimmy Savile will make a guest appearance for an hour-long special as the show moves to a new home, it was announced today.
The 74-year-old, who presented the first show from a converted Manchester church 37 years ago, will take part in the show on Friday evening.
TOTP is returning to the studios of BBC Television Centre in west London after leaving a decade ago.
A spokeswoman for the programme said: "Sir Jimmy will be having a chat with Jamie Theakston during the show."
The show is also being revamped with celebrity interviews taking place in the "star bar" and there are new additions to the line-up of presenters.
Joining the roster of presenters are ex-Radio 1 DJ Zoe Ball and Dermot O'Leary, who quit Channel 4's T4 during the summer.
Acts performing on the extended show - called Top Of The Pops Goes Large - include Westlife, Steps, Craig David and Cher.
TOTP was based at the TV centre for a quarter of a century before leaving in 1991.
