The Liquid Companion
Good beer needs not just a great brewer, but a great landlord. Careful handling, storing and serving are essential.
Bearing this in mind, Andrew Jefford looks at the future of the British pub. He finds that Britain's biggest pub owners are Nomura, a Japanese investment house, and asks if landlords in big chain pubs are prepared to handle fine ales with kid gloves.
He also looks at the arbitrary way fine old pub names are being abandoned in favour of gimmicky, and very unfunny, new ones.
