CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
Those unfortunates who find themselves in front of a TV set of a Saturday night have long been accustomed to being treated by the programmers as some kind of regrettable throwbacks who really ought to get a life.
At present it's worse than ever, with the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 schedules a wasteland of repeats, sports and duds (always excepting that perennial bright spot, Stars In Their Eyes).
All credit, then, to Channel 5 for offering an entertaining drama that is actually worth watching - the slick American import, CSI.
Admittedly, it contains some gruesome sights, but nothing to shock us hardened British viewers. If you stomached all those post-mortem scenes in Silent Witness, you'll have no problem with this.
Tonight's episode is another fast-moving three-track tale. A plumber has discovered a woman's skeleton in the cement wall of a home he is servicing. Gil (William Petersen) calls in a facial reconstruction expert to build a likeness of the dead woman's face.
An exotic dancer has accused Catherine's former husband of rape and she must put aside her personal feelings to uncover the truth.
And Sara and Warrick investigate the strange case of an ex-convict who may have been fatally shot by a pursuing policeman - or, as the cop claims, by himself.
