The Keep
Michael Mann's most bizarre movie is an allegorical Gothic fantasy set in a Romanian castle during the Second World War, occupied by a German army unit unaware that the original occupant - some kind of monstrous demon - is getting very pissed off with the intruders.
A hotch-potch of Satanic/Nazi references and Christian mythology, with a bit of Knights Templar stuff thrown in, this is definitely one for connoisseurs.
How Ian McKellen got involved in it is anyone's guess. Barking.
