Roy Mallard (played beautifully deadpan by Chris Langham) explores the world of journalism on a shambolic, but all-too-recogniseable local newspaper, the Long Eaton Gazette.
Working under a horribly disillusioned editor are: ambitious Helen, who was once 'sole editor, writer and, eventually, reader of her student magazine'; novice Jules, and hopelessly disorganised sports reporter Steve, who 'arrives just in time to be late for his first appointment of the day'.
John Morton's comic writing is as subtle and intricate as ever.
