As the election campaign hots up, it's useful to see how politicians of yore used to go about things.
Take Stalin, for example, as this intriguing documentary does. Besides his well-documented terror campaign, his self-marketing techniques worked so well that even prisoners in the gulags continued to believe in him, never mind the Stalinist cults still around today.
Tony and Dubya should take note. He managed to sell an atheist cause (communism) to a deeply religious people - Charles Saatchi, give that man a job - by dressing it up as religion, ironically. There is no God but there is Stalin, kind of thing. And what better person to pull this off than a trained Orthodox priest?
