Doing Time
People are sent to prison and we spare them not a thought. This new series concerns those left behind when a family member is incarcerated, and begins with the agonising wait for a verdict.
Both Kim and Lisa are single parents (where are the fathers?). Kim is fragile; daughter Becky is 11 but desperately acting older.
Lisa, drug addict and habitual thief, has two bewildered young children and sad, supportive parents.
Court day arrives. Becky, a frightened child, waits for a knock at the door: either her mother, returning home not guilty, or the social services to take her and her younger brother into care. Harrowing stuff.
