Cutting Edge
This series continues to produce some of the best documentaries around. Tonight, 'I Confess' follows the strange case of Russell Keys, who 'confessed' to five serial killings in the Blackpool area in the Eighties and Nineties.
He met and married American penpal Dominique (whose daughter, incidentally, sounds just like Marge Simpson) in 1998, and began to terrify her with stories of his past murderous exploits.
Keys followed Dominique after she fled back to the States and, though I don't want to give anything away, it all ended badly.
As far as police are aware, however, Keys was merely a delusional schizophrenic who was unable to distinguish fantasy and reality, and there is no material evidence to suggest he ever committed anything worse than a parking offence.
The story's surprising conclusion calls into question the motives of both Keys and his (it transpires) somewhat unbalanced wife.
