High Stakes
Richard Wilson and Jack Shepherd star in this new bank-based sitcom, which seems to want to be Yes, Minister rather than The Peter Principle and benefits from the strengths of its leading players.
It has the air of being so sure of itself that it can't quite be bothered - what, on a good day, could be described as laconic - and on that level it's refreshingly non-hysterical, even though the Laws Of Farce decree that it should slip into a denouement involving an astrologer, a hypnotist and a bunch of Latvians.
It's a shame that things inevitably go the way of office politics rather than proper satire, but it's still only the first episode.
