Phenomenon
John Travolta plays George Malley, a smalltown dimwit, whose life is changed forever when he is struck by a bolt of light.
One minute he is a car mechanic having a beer, the next he is a super-intelligent being, and the government is soon attempting to harness his new-found powers for its own dubious uses.
It's a dumb fantasy that, although generally enjoyable, drags horribly in the middle.
However, Travolta saves the film from dissolving completely into sticky sentiment with a telling central performance, which is helped by the presence of co-stars Robert Duvall and Forest Whitaker.
