EastEnders
An extra ten minutes tonight for the conclusion of the 'Who Shot Phil Mitchell?' conundrum. As this information is top secret, no tapes were distributed - cue TV previewer guessing wildly.
Mmm, let's see. The latest as we go to press is that William Hill have closed all bets on Gareth Hunt, as they suspect insider information. As bizarre as it sounds, Gareth Hunt is rumoured in a very strong way to be appearing as a hitman - therefore the question is not so much Who Shot Phil Mitchell? as Who Hired Gareth Hunt?
The Evening Standard's TV editor, Terry Ramsey, strongly favours Mark Fowler (not in the biblical sense, he stresses), who also failed to kill Nick Cotton.
Steve Owen is too obvious - and too successful at killing people, even with ashtrays. Ian would never risk having to leave Walford, because he knows he is unemployable anywhere except BBC Choice.
Another favourite theory is based on Murder On The Orient Express, with an ingenious denouement involving all the members of the Square involved in a midnight meeting at the Vic, clubbing together enough money for a hitman and drawing Gareth Hunt's name from a hat containing the names of a dozen or more ex-celebrities with large hair. Apparently, Bob Carolgees was a close second.
Finally, a confusion of hairdos could throw it all sky high, as it is also rumoured that Nigel is returning to the Square - easily confused with Gareth Hunt if you're a not-very-bright and slightly myopic TV researcher leaking the wrong information. Which leaves us - where?
