It's not often Britney Spears appears in public without making a splash.
And after hours battling the sheer boredom that often comes with staking out the stars, the paparazzi were, at the very least, thirsty for a glimpse of the pop princess.
But they got more than they bargained for when she emerged from a fast food store in Malibu with her new 'husband' Kevin Federline.
She flew into a rage and hurled a cup of soft drink at them, leaving one snapper and his equipment drenched.
Flew into a rage
To add further insult to injury, Spears bid them farewell with a one-fingered salute.
But the pop diva is not the first to hit back at photographers.
Coldplay star Chris Martin, who is married to Oscar winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow, allegedly attacked a photographer's car following a row on an Australian beach. The charges were later dropped.
Sir Elton John recently launched a scathing attack on photographers in Taiwan, branding them 'rude, vile pigs' following a furious airport bust-up.
Photographer drenched
The reason for Spears's sudden outburst is unclear. It is not known if she was provoked, or simpy angry at being photographed.
However, the fiery outburst could be the result of stress. She has faced unrelentless media attention following her recent nuptials.
The singer may have to walk down the aisle again after missing the deadline to file her marriage license, according to new reports.
For their marriage to be official, the couple should have filed the license within ten days of saying 'I do', but reportedly failed to do so.
Spears is said to be planning a no frills ceremony to make their wedding official.
