Pop stars Brian and Kerry McFadden are to divorce, it was reported today.
The couple, who were married in 2002, split two weeks ago but have only just confirmed their break-up after news of Kerry buying a house on her own was leaked to the press.
Brian, 24, said the marriage failed not because of their busy work schedules but for "personal reasons".
Speaking to the News of the World, he said: "It's not likely we'll get back together. We'll divorce.
"But we haven't talked details because at the moment, for the sake of the kids, we just want to get our lives straight."
The couple have two daughters, Molly, aged three and 18-month-old Lily Sue. Brian insisted that they would have joint custody.
Rumours started circulating when I'm a Celebrity... winner Kerry, 24, was seen buying a house in Warrington, Cheshire, near where her mother lives.
Brian revealed that he had not seen his wife for five weeks and that they ended their relationship over the phone.
"We had issues, things came to a head and we split," he said.
The singer, whose first solo track reached number one last month, said he had been in tears every night since the break-up.
"I do talk to Kerry on the phone but not for long and we only talk about the girls," he told the newspaper.
"I always call to say goodnight to them and I find it very hard because I miss them. Afterwards I'm in tears. I love them so much, and it hurts."
Talking about the breakdown of his relationship, he said: "We're still friends and I still love Kerry very much.
"It's very, very sad for both of us. I'm so upset."
Brian, who shed a lot of weight when he split with the boyband Westlife earlier this year, denied that there was anyone else involved.
