The Middle Classes
A look at the upper-middle classes, the 'leaders of society' between the wars, centred on the Courtauld dynasty of textile manufacturers.
Family members are used as case studies and viewers are encouraged to draw their own parallels between them and typical upper-middle class behaviour - this is a think piece, which is heartening.
Less heartening is the fact that the documentary hardly bowls along. There is little drama here, more a series of well-to-do types playing philanthropist while sending their male offspring to public school.
Could it be that the middle classes just aren't terribly interesting people?
