Fare too many cabs
There is far too much taxi talk in the soaps at the moment, and taxis come second only to garages in the boredom stakes.
In EastEnders, Charlie is complaining that Barry's firm is taking business from his black cab, but then that's not hard. Charlie, you see, never leaves the Square, and you can't help feeling that if he just parked outside the Tube once in a while, he might have more luck picking up fares.
In Coronation Street, Vikram's belief that Steve made a pass at Karen has resulted in Dev wanting to buy Steve's shares in the cab firm.
It seems a bit rough on Steve, as his refusal to sleep with Karen is probably the only decent thing he has done in his entire life.
The worst aspect of the firm, though, is Eileen's new hairdo. Her hairdo has gone from being glamorous, sexy blonde, to a shorn, grey, plain style. I know she's very keen on Dennis, but did she have to copy his coiffure?
Brookside also had its fair share of cabs this week, with one picking up Katie and her mates from Max's restaurant after a birthday supper (how did six fit into it?), and two picking up Bev's entourage for her marriage to Fred.
The only decent taxi plot - a taxi chase - this week was in EastEnders, with Roy and Barry chasing Beppe, who was taking Pat to the airport. Roy caught up with her at some lights, and they stood in the middle of the road declaring their love for each other. Where is that ten-ton truck when you need it?
