Denise gets the habit
Denise Van Outen is returning to TV with a wimple - by starring as a nun in a new sitcom, it was announced today.
The star, who is out of the habit of TV after giving up Channel 4's Big Breakfast, is in the cast of Loose Canons.
The show, being made by Granada Entertainment, is her first TV sitcom since Babes In the Wood was axed four years ago after being panned.
Producers of the show say her character Sister Mary is a "boisterous ladette nun".
The programme also features a one-eyed, hook-handed cleric, spoofing Abu Hamza, who is played by Lou Hirsch.
A 30-minute pilot episode of the show - about a group of disparate characters fighting to save a run-down church - has been made, but it has not been commissioned by a broadcaster as yet.
Ray Burdis and Don Warrington from BBC2's Manchild also feature in the show, as does Linda Robson, former star of Birds of a Feather.
