George Clooney has officially entered the Super Bowl ad arena.

On Sunday, the Oscar winner, 64, is set to star in Grubhub's first-ever Big Game commercial, which will air during the third quarter as the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots face off for the the most anticipated sports event of the year.

The 30-second spot, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, marks Clooney's first appearance in a national Super Bowl advertisement.

The ad unfolds inside an extravagant castle, where an immaculately dressed group of guests gathers for a theatrical dinner party piled high with takeout dishes.

The mood, however, abruptly shifts when the host announces the final course: the fees.

Gasps ripple through the room as guests recoil at the idea of being forced to 'eat' delivery and service charges.

'And for the final course, we have the fees,' one man at the table declares, prompting panicked reactions.

'Oh no,' another dinner guest responds as others scrambled to make excuses why they couldn't.

The tension breaks when Clooney's character finally intervenes, delivering the campaign's central promise with calm authority: 'Grubhub will eat the fees.'

The line is then echoed repeatedly by the dinner guests in a surreal chant - 'Grubhub will eat the fees… Grubhub will eat the fees…' - before Clooney dryly clarifies the message: no delivery fees, no service fees, and no more fees on restaurant orders over $50.

'When I heard Yorgos Lanthimos was directing his first Super Bowl spot for Grubhub, and they called and asked me to be a part of it, I was thrilled,' Clooney told People. 'He's one of my favorite directors.'

According to a Grubhub press release, obtained by People, the move is designed as a permanent benefit rather than a short-term promotion.

The company says it aims to address one of the most common frustrations among food-delivery customers, noting that fees on $50-plus orders can average around $13 across competing apps.

For Clooney, that message immediately clicked.

'It's a great way to tell people that they agree the fees are annoying,' he says simply.

Despite the condensed format, Clooney says working on the commercial felt no different from stepping onto one of Lanthimos' film sets.

'Honestly, nothing changed,' he explains. 'He treats a 30-second spot the same way he treats a film. We're in this incredible castle with these terrific actors. He uses his same cameraman that he shoots every film with. He has a very clear point of view, and that carried all the way through.'

The actor describes the finished ad as 'a very short, two-minute Yorgos Lanthimos film,' distilled into a Super Bowl-ready moment.

Lanthimos is the Oscar-nominated mastermind behind Dogtooth (2009), The Lobster (2015), The Favourite (2018), Poor Things (2023), and Bugonia (2025).

In December, Clooney signed a lucrative deal with US–based food delivery service Grubhub.

As news broke of the partnership, he had been spotted filming an advert for the company in North Mymms Park, an Elizabethan mansion and estate near Hatfield, Hertfordshire.

Clooney has a Thameside home with lawyer wife Amal in Sonning, Berkshire.
