Bam Margera offers Britney Spears advice he says has kept him clean for more than a year

Bam Margera advised Britney Spears to reevaluate the people around her, in an effort to change her life for the better.

The Jackass alum, 46, spoke to TMZ on Monday in Los Angeles, where he was asked about the concern for the 43-year-old pop star after recent photos surfaced showing her at a bar in Thousand Oaks, California.

Margera said he had been sober for more than a year, and actually had considered personally visiting Britney to share the advice.

'I've reached a year - September 28th is my sober day - but like, when I was with Lamar Odom, Britney's house was right down the street,' Margera said. 'I'm ready to just knock on that door and say, "Hey, if you want help, it's right here."'

The MTV alum went on to detail specific problems that plagued him after becoming famous and dealing with substance abuse issues.

'I was in the same situation I didn't know who to believe, I didn't know who to trust,' Margera said. 'And finally, when I deleted everybody from my life that was, you know, in a negative way, or always trying to tell me to get help, as soon as I deleted them, I don't need any more help.'

Margera said he 'couldn't be happier' with a smaller social circle 'of tight, positive, sober friends.'

The West Chester, Pennsylvania native made reference to a tattoo he got two years ago inspired by Britney's 2000 hit Oops!... I Did It Again.

'I have her tattooed right here that says, "Oops, they did it to me too," Margera said in reference to being placed into treatment and guardianships. 'I totally get it.'

Margera said he found society's methods of sending people with alcohol or marijuana dependencies to rehab to be antiquated.

'Their only solution is ... treatment, lock them up for 90 days,' Margera said. 'So you're a constantly walking on eggshells, and as soon as you get a moment of freedom, all you want to do is get as [intoxicated] as possible to forget how you even got into the situation.'

Margera said that substance abuse led him to hit his 'own rock bottom,' and that his wife, fitness professional Dannii Marie, has kept him clean and focused on staying that way.

'My wife is a stretch coach and a nutritionist and who actually spent some time with Britney,' Margera said of his spouse.

Margera stressed that it's 'never too late' to turn one's life around admitting that he 'took off a decade to basically party' until he turned things around with the help of his spouse, who he said 'hates drugs and alcohol and is a stretch coach.'

Margera said he feels decades younger after achieving a year of sobriety.

'I feel like I'm back in my 20s - skating better than ever,' Margera said. 'My legs are like 100 percent again.'

Margera went through his daily routine now that he has abandoned drugs and alcohol.

'All it takes is just stay out of the bar, wake up, go to the gym, walk a dog, find a skate trip, just do positive things, and, you know, now everything is back to being fun again - you know?' Margera said. 'I love it, and I do not miss drinking.'

Asked about Kevin Federline's tell-all book titled You Thought You Knew, Margera said that he would probably have to read both that and Britney's 2023 memoir The Woman in Me to get a better idea of what really happened.

'All that I know is that I want to read it, because there's three sides to every story - your side, his side, and the truth,' Margera said. 'So, let's read both books and meet in the middle and find out what the truth is here.'
