Kevin Jonas' wife Danielle reveals she has been diagnosed with Lyme disease

Kevin Jonas' wife Danielle has opened up about her 'traumatic' health battle.

Danielle, 39, who's been married to the Jonas Brothers singer, 37,  for 16 years, revealed she's been diagnosed with Lyme disease.

The reality TV personality discussed her health woes in a new interview with Parents, sharing that she first began to notice something was wrong when she started losing her hair.

Though doctors initially told her it was just anxiety, a biopsy later showed that she has Lyme disease.

Danielle said the ordeal of losing her hair was 'traumatic' adding, 'I got to a point where I wanted to wear a wig.'

She also found eczema on her scalp, which she believes 'was likely from the inflammation [caused by Lyme disease].'

However, instead of opting for a wig, Danielle decided to wear extensions.

Unfortunately, they irritated her eczema further.

'I had to go out and do things with Kevin. I just wanted to feel like myself,' she shared.

Danielle now has her Lyme disease under control, though she still experiences residual symptoms like eczema flare-ups.

Lyme disease is a serious bacterial infection usually contracted after being bitten by a tick, causing flu-like symptoms which can last for a few weeks but, for reasons not yet understood, some patients suffer for years.

Earlier this year, Justin Timberlake also revealed he had been diagnosed with Lyme disease.

Other celebrities plagued by the condition include Bella Hadid and her mom Yolanda, Comedian Miranda Hart, singer Justin Bieber, actor Ben Stiller and TV personality Kelly Osbourne.

Danielle also shared that both of their two daughters, Alena, 11, and Valentina, 8, also deal with eczema.

'They saw everything I went through, so the main thing I tell them [when their eczema flares up] is "this is going to pass."'

She also added that Alena has 'always had other skin issues.'

Elsewhere in the interview she praised Kevin's bond with their girls.

'Kevin never really mentioned wanting boys, so when we had two girls, he was beside himself,' she explained.

'He always gives them their way, but the biggest thing is just how much he loves them.'

She said the two are already picking up on their dad's hobbies like golf and playing guitar, gushing that it's 'so cute.'

Last year, her husband Kevin discussed his health battle with skin cancer.

The singer shared a health update as he posted a clip on Instagram of himself before and after going through the procedure of getting a basal-cell carcinoma removed from his head.

The Jonas Brothers member panned the camera to show a mole on his forehead while he was lying down.

'Yes, that is an actual little skin cancer guy that has started to grow,' he said. 'And now I have to get surgery to remove it, so here we go.'

He then urged his 4.9 million followers to frequently get health checkups.

Kevin and Danielle first met in 2007 while on vacation with their families in the Bahamas, and tied the knot two years later at Oheka Castle in Long Island, New York.

The lovebirds welcomed their first child in 2014, followed by their second daughter in 2016.

The pair have previously opened up about parenthood during an interview with E! News last year in August 2023.

'Sometimes, what they say is not what really what they mean,' Jonas said of his daughters while talking to the outlet.

'And when they're telling us how they feel, sometimes there's something else really going on. I think you try to listen past the listening. And we're still working on that.'

Danielle also reflected on their two children growing up, and expressed, 'It's hard to let go.'

'I'm a sucker in that I always want to see them happy, and it's hard because you don't want to give them everything.'

WHAT IS LYME DISEASE?

Lyme disease is caused by a bacteria that is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected black-legged ticks.

The most common symptoms of the disease are fever, headache, fatigue and a skin rash called erythema migrans.

The disease can typically be treated by several weeks of oral antibiotics.

But if left untreated, the infection can spread to the joints, heart and nervous symptoms and be deadly.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ARE INFECTED?

During the first three to 30 days of infection, these symptoms may occur:

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle and joint aches
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Erythema migrans (EM) rash

The rash occurs in approximately 80 per cent of infected people.

It can expand to up to 12 inches (30 cm), eventually clearing and giving off the appearance of a target or a 'bull's-eye'.

Later symptoms of Lyme disease include:

  • Severe headaches and neck stiffness
  • Additional rashes
  • Arthritis with joint pain and swelling
  • Facial or Bell's palsy
  • Heart palpitations
  • Problems with short-term memory
  • Nerve pain
