Ring 2

Ring 2 breaks the cardinal rule of all sequels, which is this: the sequel should make sense even if you haven't seen the first film.

Watching both (in the right order) will simply enhance and broaden your understanding as the films progress.

Alas, Nakata Hideo's follow-up to his brilliant original is a confused, confusing and not-toofrightening affair. The events follow on immediately after those at the conclusion of Ring, with survivors of the curse attempting to track down the diabolical death-dealing videotapes and getting involved in various supernatural situations.

A few moments of shock and a reasonably sustained creepy atmosphere do not compensate for the lackadaisical plotting, the sheer lack of logic (which was one of Ring's most effective factors) and the unnecessary "improvements" (a kid charged up with supernatural energies like a spectral accumulator, a higher gore score). A severe disappointment.
