Days Of Wine And Roses
Jack Lemmon is cast effectively against type as a PR executive who copes with his existential unease and sliding career by drinking socially. That social drinking soon becomes something more serious and when he persuades his tee-total wife Lee Remick to start sharing his wine.
They both begin to drink, initially for pleasure, but before long they slip into a haze of alcoholic dependency.
Adapted from a teleplay, this powerful drama is directed by Blake Edwards.
The two stars have rarely been better and Lemmon's revelations that he battled with alcoholism for many years now bring an added poignancy to the story.
